“Is that skirt made of neoprene, like wetsuit material?” Yes, yes my friend, it is. And it’s freakin’ amazing.
The first time I saw this skirt I was in love, however I was not about to pay $128 for it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll shell out some money for a classic piece (okay fine, and a beautiful designer handbag), but when it comes to funky prints and materials that I know won’t be in style for more than a year, I just can’t bring myself to justify it. That’s why I was so incredibly excited to find this skirt in the sale section for $99. Now I know what you’re thinking – that isn’t that good of a deal, Alyson. Oh, but I’m not done yet. It was mis-marked, so it was actually $69.99, BUT everything in the sale section was 50% off. SOOOOOO I got it for a whopping $35. Yep, that is 73% off folks. I was pretty proud. #NailedIt #DealFinder
How do you like the photos on the blog today? They’re a bit different, if you haven’t noticed. That’s because my mom took them! :) Normally my engineer-turned-photog (half kidding) boyfriend takes them, but he’s working on getting his pilot’s license and studying pretty much every waking hour that he isn’t at work, so I went on a walk with my mom and asked if she could take some photos for the blog. I think they turned out pretty great, don’t you?! Thanks, Mar! <3
Before I leave you, I wanted to let you know about RocksBox. I got the gem bracelet below in my July box, and I am in LOVE with it. I haven’t talked about RocksBox on my blog yet, but I think it’s safe to say I’m addicted. As Jennifer Hudson says in the Sex And The City Movie, “It’s like Netflix for purses!” (only we’re talking about jewelry here) You pay $19 and you get jewelry in the mail. You can switch out your pieces as often as you like that month, while only paying the flat rate fee of $19 once. So basically you could keep your box for the entire month, or you could switch your box every week and it’s still the same price. Pretty neat, huh? And if you fall in love with a piece of jewelry, you can decide to buy it at a discounted price. #win

So popsicles may or may not be one of my favorite treats during the summertime. It makes a great dessert, especially when you’re craving something cold and sweet (read: froyo), but want to stick with something healthy (read: not froyo). Today I’m showing you how to make two types of popsicles, a strawberry-pineapple-mint one that I got from Style Activist (although I put my own twist on it!) and a kale-mango-pineapple recipe I created myself! Watch the video, let me know what other popsicle flavors you’d like to see, and re-create them at home using the recipes below. Enjoy!
4 cups of strawberries
1/4 fresh pineapple (or about 1 cup)
A few sprigs of fresh mint leaves
1 cup of liquid of your choice – Erika uses apple juice, but this time I chose to use Bolthouse Farms Watermelon-Mint Lemonade
“Green” Popsicles 4-5 leaves of kale (you can use 1-2 cups spinach if you’d like a flavor less bitter, although I can barely taste it to be honest)
1 cup fresh pineapple
1/3 cup mango
1 small green apple
The juice from 1 small lime
1 cup of coconut water – this time I used a Mango flavored coconut water from Bolthouse Farms
Put ingredients in a blender, pour into popsicle molds, freeze overnight (or for at least 6 hours), and enjoy!
I love me some summer weather, and doing tag videos. This video is both things, which makes it pretty fantastic.
Here is a new video to get to know me a bit better! Learn what my favorite summer drink is, lip color, nail polish, and what travel plans I have this summer! I hope you enjoy – feel free to leave answers to these questions in the comments below!
Happy Tuesday! I haven’t done a “I Really Love My…” post in a while, and I missed this series! I am definitely a girl who wears items over and over (and over) again, and when I find something I like, I stick with it. I like to think I’m a creature of habit who likes to get her money’s worth. I received these Vince Camuto booties for a birthday gift last year and I have worn them dozens of times. They go with everything – leggings, jeans, skirts, dresses…you name it, I’ve probably tried it. They just have a edgy vibe that balances out girly dresses, but still looks put together and cool with jeans and a tee.
What shoes do you own that seem to go with everything? Shop some of my other favorite Vince Camuto boots below!
If you know me well, you know I am a handbag addict. There is nothing better than buying a new handbag (in terms of material possessions, obviously). I also love getting a good deal. I’ve had this handbag for about 3 months now, and it is safe to say that I am completely obsessed. The best part? This bag is from Old Navy and it is under $35! Yep – you read that right. It looks so much more luxe and expensive, plus it’s on trend, versatile comfortable to wear, and a perfect neutral that looks great with everything. How much better can you get? Watch the video about to see my full review – enjoy! xo
Happy Friday! I come to you with a new type of haul video today, it’s a book haul! I have been super into reading this summer, and I cannot say no to sales at Barnes and Noble lately. What books are you reading this summer? I would love to hear your recommendations based on the books I picked up and what you think I might like. I tend to go for easy, casual beach reads (such as PLL, or The Vacationers), or dystopian-type books (such as Divergent, Matched, or Delirium). I have also been loving business books, such as #Girlboss and Lean In, so any recommendations you could make I would love! I hope you all are having a wonderful summer so far, have a fabulous weekend!
During the summer, I try to minimize my beauty routine as much as possible. Part of it me being lazy, part of it I want as few products sweating off my face as possible.
My favorite summer foundation is from Rimmel – it’s the Wake Me Up foundation in Fair 001, but it’s from Europe, so it’s much darker than I’m used to. This is my summer color, and this formula is phenomenal. It’s dewy and glowy, but has great lasting power. It looks very natural on the skin and lasts from day to night.
For blush I’ve been reaching for Tarte Tipsy almost every day of the week, it’s pigmented, bright, and stays on for 12 hours. Really. Plus Tarte’s products are made from natural, good-for-you ingredients.
For my eyes, I try to keep things as neutral as possible. If I’m really trying to get out the door in 5 minutes, I’ll swipe on the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Matic pencil in ME-54 Metallic Pinky Beige…which is exactly that. This stuff, once on, is BUDGE PROOF! It is not going anywhere. It is waterproof too, so if you like a bit of makeup on when you’re at the pool or beach, you have to give this a try. I just picked this up about a week and a half ago and it’s my new eye obsession. If I want to spend a bit more time on my makeup, or I’m headed out at night and want to add some drama, I’ll use the Too Faced Neutral Eye Palette. It has a nice mix of mattes and shimmers, and every single color is gorgeous.
Next up, lips. I prefer matte lipsticks in the summer because they last so much longer in the heat. This Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon is bright, non-drying, and smudge proof. Once on, it stays on. If I’m looking to add a bit of shine, the Buxom Lipgloss in Celeste is my all-time favorite. It looks good over everything, and the sparkle in it is insanely beautiful.
For nails, I’ve been loving some more muted colors. I’m usually a neon girl, but lately I’ve been into mint green, lilacs, and baby pinks. The pink is Sally Hansen in Sumac Sonic and the mint green is Essie in Mint Candy Apple. Both are available at the drugstore for under $10 and you can usually find them on sale. These both also last about 4 or 5 days without chipping, which is great wear time for me.
Lastly, perfume. I have lately been obsessing over Lily Pulitzer Squeeze perfume – it smells like you’re in a field of oranges, and it just smells so fresh, citrusy and summery. It is so delicious, crisp, and makes me so happy every time I smell it.
I hope I gave you some ideas for a melt-free makeup routine this summer! What beauty products have you been loving?
